More Seedlings…

After 3 days, the Bok Choy and Mighty Red Oak Lettuce are sprouting.

WonderCon + More Seedlings

I spent the day (Saturday) in San Francisco with my friend Howie and we went to Comic-Con International’s WonderCon in the new Moscone Center West. There were all types of comics, sci-fi stuff (Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, etc.), anime, video and toys. I bought a couple of toys which I’ll bring to work and use for ideas for the garden. I’ll post photos and explain my ideas later.

When I got home, I found that two more seedlings have emerged:

– Coleus ‘Tilt-A-Whirl’
– Eggplant ‘Scarlet Chinese’

Seedling Status…

Coleus ‘Amora?’ just sprouted.

The ‘Brandywine OTV’ and ‘Great White’ Tomato seedlings are about 3 inches tall and starting to show their third set of leaves.

The two Pine seedlings are fascinating and showing their second set of leaves.

Coleus Up + More Seeds Down…

I just checked my Jiffy Mini-Greenhouse planted with Coleus and to my surprise, three of them have started to come up, just after four days. They are ‘Kong Green’, ‘Kong Scarlet’ and ‘Tabasco?’.

I also sow more seeds into the Jiffy Greenhouse (72 Pellets):

– Sugar Snap Peas (12 pellets)
– Japanese Long Purple Eggplant (6 pellets)
– Roma Tomato (3 pellets)
– Clemson Spineless Okra (3 pellets)
– Bok Choy (12 pellets)
– Hybrid Summer Boy Chin-Chiang Cabbage (6 pellets)
– Fordhook Giant Swiss Chard (6 pellets)
– Salad Bowl Lettuce (8 pellets)
– Grand Rapids Lettuce (8 pellets)
– Mighty Red Oak Lettuce (8 pellets)

More Seedlings…

Yesterday, I added an extension to the shelves in my room. The shelves I have are part of the IVAR storage system from Ikea. I’ve had them in my old apartment, and had to scale it down when I moved back home (I have a smaller room here). Luckily, I saved the extra side unit and shelves, and expanded my current setup. Now it looks huge, but at least I have room to setup my new grow lights.

Which reminds me… The ‘Brandywine OTV’ and ‘Great White’ Tomatoes have sprouted. I think the ‘William Guiness’ Columbine is sprouting too, but I can’t quite tell if it is or if it’s moldy. I also noticed that some pine nuts that I found and planted are emerging. Yeay!

And to top it off, the White Genoa Fig and Arguta Kiwi scions that I placed in cup of water are starting to bud.

First Seedling of the Year!

I just checked the Jiffy-7 Mini-Greenhouse that I planted on Tuesday and I was surprised to see some seedlings coming up! Already! Just after 4 days!… Both peat pellets of the Coleus ‘Dappled Apple?’ have sprouted. I’m so proud of them… hehe… and to think these were collected from plants I grew last year!

The Mama Plant
Dappled Apple?

This plant was actually labelled ‘Wild Lime’, but it didn’t look like another ‘Wild Lime’ I had. It didn’t even look like the photo on the label. I think it is actually ‘Dapple Apple’ and will call it ‘Dappled Apple?’ until someone corrects me.

Baby Seedling…

As I was taking a break from work, I went to check if Mr. Dandelion was still under the tree on the sidewalk on The Embarcadero (San Francisco). I was surprised to see the seedling below. I’m not sure what it is, but it looks like a pine tree seedling.

Baby Seedling

Mr. Dandelion was gone, by the way.

I then thought, if the landscaper were to see it, they would just pull it out like a weed… so I pulled it up as carefully as I could, to plant in a pot. I kinda snapped the root, so I’m not sure if it’ll make it, but I guess we’ll see…

New Shelf for My Seedlings and Cuttings…

My Uncle Ray made me a really nice shelf out of some scrap wood that he had. I gave him the dimensions that I needed to fit 6 nursery trays and they fit perfectly! :)

Now I have an neat way to store my seedlings and cuttings

Thank you very much Uncle Ray!!!
