Ornamental Grass + Seeds

As I was walking with some co-workers to Taco Bell for lunch, I saw an Ornamental Grass on the corner of Drumm and Washington in San Francisco with seeds ready to pop out. They were calling out, “Joey, take me… take me home!!!”… so I did. I’m not sure what variety it is, but I took a photo of the plant if anyone can figure out what it is. I’ll try to plant these in the spring and see what come out.

When I got home, I remembered other seeds I collected in the summer.

Photos from the Garden

I love my new Canon PowerShot A610 camera, because it can take much better macros than my old Canon PowerShot SD100. I can shoot as close as 1cm. Below are some photos I took earlier today.

Star Anise

Last time we were at the filipino grocery store, my mom bought bought some Star Anise seeds. That got me wondering if they will grow, so I got four seeds and placed it on a a wet paper towel to see if they will sprout. If they do, I can try to grow some in the spring.

Green Beans + Organized Seeds

I’m excited because the Tendergreen Bush Beans that I sowed on June 16 has it’s first fruits :) Yeay!!!

I also went to Longs Drugs and got a Rubbermaid container to organize all my seed packets that are scattered here and there.

Why do I have so much?… Well, I bought a few, but I also got a whole bunch as a gift for being employee of the quarter; my brother bought a whole bunch when they went on sale for 10 or 5 cents and some are gifts from friends.

Sunday Gardening…

Sunday, July 10

Early this morning, I harvested my first cucumbers and eggplant. The huge cucumber in the photo is labeled as Yellow Submarine Cucumber. It hasn’t turned yellow as the tag shows, but that thing is 10 inches, but the tag says 8 inches, so I decided to go ahead and harvest it.

The Sweet 100 Tomatoes are really to harvest, but I’ll do that tomorrow.

Our pruning shears are a bit dull, so I sharped them with a sharpening stone, and they work so much better. I don’t think they ever have been sharpened.

I repotted the Avocado that I “discovered” we had (see yesterday’s post). My mom kindly gave the plant to me :)

I took some pictures around the garden…
