Wish List: Euphorbias

As I was trying to help a fellow Flickr-mate ID a plant, I stumbled around these that I thought were neat. Both are in the Euphorbiaceae family.

– Euphorbia bicolor ( DG PlantFile )
– Acalypha wilkesiana ‘Ceylon’ (Copperleaf, Jacob’s Coat, Fire-Dragon) ( DG PlantFile )

  • Bucket-hat so cute ^_~!

Good to see you around again.

  • I bought a Copperleaf “Bourbon Street” http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/132109/index.html recently for a large pot in honor of a friend from the New Orleans area. I mixed a some Hot pink-colored celosia in with it and a hot pink portulaca that both offet the Copperleaf edges beautifully. I also put in a darker raspberry colored celosia that also looks very good with it. When they all get a little bigger, I hope to have a pic to show you.

    • ooooh… I bet that’s a “hot” combination. That Copperleaf is a really nice looking plant… Looks like it grows too tall of the space we have now… but, maybe when I get my own place…

I can’t wait to see the pics :)

  • How do you take all of the cuttings you do when you are out walking, etc….? Do you carry a small clipper with you?

I almost always have my felco clippers in their holster on my belt, but that is because I wear them for my job, so they are there after work as well for quick snipping of interesting plants.

    Just Curious.

    • I usually keep a couple of zip-lock bags with paper towels in my backpack (which pretty much is always with me) and a bottle of water. I don’t clip them right away. I just remember where the plant is and go back at a more convenient time. I don’t carry any tools, but take a large enough chunk that I can trimming when I get home…

When it comes to seeds, I usually wear cargo pants which has a lot of pockets. :)
