Yellow Pear Tomato RIP, Planting Bok Choy and Lettuce Harvest

After being sick for 3 days and having surprise showers, I was able to go outside and work in the garden.

My Yellow Pear Tomato died for some reason. I’m not sure why, but the others tomato plants next to it looks fine and healthy. I noticed some new tomatoes plants that sprouted from the homemade compost that I mixed in the bed and planted it in the Yellow Pear Tomatoes place.

I also transplanted the Bok Choy that I planted from seeds to the bed. I just hope that the bugs don’t eat them all up.

The Lettuce are getting big and I was able to harvest some for dinner.

I also took a whole bunch of photos around the garden, but will post them behind a cut in my next entry.

A trip to the San Francisco Botanical Garden…

On Saturday, I went to a plant sale at the San Francisco Botanical Garden. I’ve never been to one, so I just wanted to see what a plant sale is like and what was available. It wasn’t as big as I thought, but they had alpine plants, some succulents and other perennials. I enjoyed looking at the other gardens that lead to the nursery and regretted not bringing my camera. There was one flowing plant that I just had to take a picture of.

Flowers

Sorry for the poor quality, but this photo was taken with my mobile phone.

Now I want to take a day off of work and plan a day trip (with my camera) and take loads of pictures.

Mystery Plant

I have a weed in one of my containers that I can’t identify. I don’t want to kill it because I’m fascinated with the plant. At first I thought it was a pepper or tomato, but it doesn’t seem to be one.

The plant is about a foot and a half in height and has leaves that resemble a pepper or tomato leaf. It has round green fruits that look like a tomato, but is only about 1/4 inch round and turns to a dark purple (almost black).

2. This is a similar plant I saw in an empty lot in San Francisco. Same fruits, but the leaves are slightly different from the one I have at home.

Can anyone identify these plants? Thank you.

Welcome to my Gardening Journal

Hello and welcome to my gardening journal.

I created this journal to keep a personal log of my little garden and to share photos and experiences with other gardeners. I also find myself reading posts from communities and other gardeners on a daily basis.

I’ve been vegetable gardening in my parents back yard since I was in high school (way back in 1985), but once I moved out and went to college, I was limited to only a few container plants, since I primarily lived in apartments. When my father passed away a few years ago, I decided to move back home to keep my mom company and so I can help take care of things at home.

I started vegetable gardening again (yeay!) late last year and was surprised with our harvest even though I had a very late start… This year will be my first “full” growing season in over 17 years!!!… I’m really excited to get back to growing vegetables in a real garden bed.

Feel free to comment to my posts and/or send me an email… Enjoy :)

Welcome

This is my first post to this journal.

Belated Happy Valentine’s Day

Belated Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone who I didn’t get a chance to personally greet :X I hope you and your loved one had a great Valentine’s Day…

I didn’t really make a big deal of today… and didn’t have expectations from a certain someone, so it seemed just like a regular ordinary day… except for the fact that we had tons of candies other treats at work… I felt so full today at work and hyper all day. I think it was the brownie with chili pepper mixed in that I ate right when I got to work.

Today in carpool, I happened to ride with our I.T. guy to work… and we talked all the way to work. Not only that… when it was my turn to hop into a car going home… He just happened to pull up again. It’s the first time I rode with the same person to and from work.

Once I got to Vallejo, I got a call from my mom and she asked if I can get a flower plant in a pot for my brother and sister-in-law, because they called and asked us to come over and eat dinner there…

I also talked with ATL and it seems like he’s not doing too well again. I wish I can do more for him, but it is up to him, if he wants to get his life back on track. I do hope that he keeps with his goal and not let go of getting his life together. It just seems like he keeps choosing the wrong path. :(
