Just got paid!!!

Just got into work and checked my balance online… Yeah!!! My direct deposit paycheck just got posted… Now I can eat!

Still $0.00…

Just checked to see if my direct deposit check has posted in my bank account… Nope! Not yet… Hopefully by the time I wake up, I’ll finally have some money in the bank. I really screwed myself this time (see Jan. 8, 2002 entry) and I have to be more carefully with my money, especially since my New Years resolution was to get my finances in order. So for the past few days, I haven’t been spending any money (since I don’t have any) and buying really really cheap lunches. There were so many things I wanted to buy, also, but those thangs just have to wait. (Actually, it’s good, ‘cuz I’ve had to re-evaluate what things I really needed).

I also set up a calendar with all my bill due dates on my Yahoo! Calendar. I actually find this more useful than my Palm, since I do more work on the computer. Plus, I have easy access to my Yahoo! Calendar from any web-enabled computer. I also have it set up to remind me to send in my payments before the due date, which will save me with all those late fees. I’ve just been wasting my money with them damn late fees!

Workin on my web site…

For the past two evening, I’ve been doing maintenance work on my web site. Although I didn’t really do any new content, I did add a link to my journal and did some administrative fixes. It’s also a good chance for me to go through my site and see what I need to get done. Hopefully, I’ll have time to update some pages since many are more than a year old. I also want to place some new ones up and think about a restructuring.

A shout and a big smile on my way to work…

Lately, unusual things have been happening on walk from BART to work.

I was waiting on the corner of Battery and California (I think) for the green light. I was blasting “We Will Rock You (Fatboy Slim remix)” by Queen on my CD player and I tought I heard someone shouting. I didn’t think anything of it; didn’t even look back. But, I heard it again… and again…

So I look back and I see this guy who was selling subscriptions to SF Cronical looking directly at me with a big smile. I wasn’t sure what was going on and just continued to watch for the WALK sign. Then as I’m crossing the street I wonder if he was the guy shouting and why was he looking at me with a big smile…

A trip to Berkeley….

More to come…

Gotta love PBS…

Made dinner tonight for me and Hoang. Made (or should I say reheated) some pancit, sinigang, lumpia and some rice. As we ate, we watched a few shows on PBS. Gotta love PBS…

First was Nature with a show about Lemurs. It was quite fascinating, informative and also sad. I actually watched this before, but it was good to see it again. This crew followed a season with this pack of mother lemurs and how they cared for their babies. The crew personalized (is that the word?) some babies and key players of the pack.

One baby was a rambunctious male who was called Daredevil. This one was a wild one. Always playing and hyper. He was the strongest and most energetic of the babies. Unfortunately, this was his weakness as he fell from a branch while playing and paralyzed himself. It was sad to see his mom as she was confused why he wouldn’t move.

Another baby was an albino named (damn I forgot). He was a cute one too and although it stood out from all the others, he was accepted. As he grew he became sickly. His stomach was distended and he was lethargic. He often was left behind. One day his mom found him, no longer moving. She, being confused why he wasn’t responding, stayed with him for a long period of time, herself sometimes being left behind. At one point, one of the males came up to her and her baby and consoled them.

There were twins who both survived the season. They were noticeably smaller than the other babies, but at the end, they both grew to maturity. In the wild it is rare for two baby lemurs to both grow to maturity.

After that show, another Nature played. This time it was about creatures in your garden. I think the title was “The Secret Garden”. So we learned about butterflies, wasps, hedgehogs, snails, ants, water bugs, plants and a maraud of other creatures.

Third show was “In The Life,” show about gays and lesbians. One segment I really liked was gay couples who had babies. How they dealt with home life in general, people around them and the process of adoption or insemination. Quite informative. Seeing the children, they grew up like any normal child. Many of them actually had a life similar to gay individual even though they were straight. They had to deal with other kids making fun of them, not understanding and hiding some aspects of family life. All in all the kids were very mature and were strong individuals. Kinda disproves the concerns that some people think that the kids will turn out gay too.

Another trip to Ikea…

Gotta love Ikea…

Me and Hoang went to Ikea and returned some things. I returned a devue that I bought last week. I liked it in the showroom, but didn’t like it on my bed. We also looked at more stuff and I bought a $4.95 unfinished wooden plant tray/pedestal thingy, which I’m using as a stool for my walk-in closet. I also got two 3 packs of these nice white, gray and charcoal 2″ or so terra cotta pots. I wanted to get more, but don’t really have the funds right now… Gotta wait after payday… I guess I’ll be visiting Ikea again.
