Wish List: Paper Spine Cactus

I previously wrote an entry asking for this cactus’ name, and I got a response that it was ‘Opuntia Diademanta’.

Today, a fellow Flickr user told me it is ‘Tephrocactus articulatus var. papyracanthus’ or Paper Spine Cactus. ( DG PlantFile )

What ever it is, i love it!

Two Hanging in the Backyard…

Cactus Flower   Tiger Fern

Some of our cactus are starting to bloom. The photo on the left is one of my Mom’s hanging cactus (I don’t know what kind it is).

On the right, is the foliage of a Tiger Fern, which is a gift I gave my Mom for Mother’s Day.

Cactus Book…

One of the gifts I received from Christmas was “Cactus: The Most Beautiful Species and Their Care” by Elisabeth Manke. Thanks Howie :)

Can you identify this cactus?

I just discovered that one of our freelancers here at work is really into cactus and succulents, like me. I was trying to explain on of my favorites. it’s kinda toupe or grayish tan with long spines that look like thin fingernails. Then I tried to draw it:

[Edited July 20, 2005] I found it with the help of (Anonymous). It’s a Opuntia Diademanta. Here are some pics of it: ( link 1 ) ( link 2 )

[Edited July 25, 2006] The actual name of this cactus is ‘Tephrocactus articulatus var. papyracanthus’ or Paper Spine Cactus. ( DG PlantFile )

3 More Succulents…

I’m really getting addicted to planting again… I went shopping with my mom and I got 3 succulents in 2″ containers. One Sedum spathulifolium “Carnea” and two other Euphorbias that didn’t have tags, so I have to research their names.

I’ve collected cactus and succulents for as long as I remember. I especially the ones in 2″ pots because I get a sense of satisfaction watching them grow and develop.

For the last couple of years, when friends ask me what I want for my birthday or Christmas, I tell them to get me an unusual 2″ cactus… and that all I want. (Hint, hint!!!)
