Induction Cooktop Query…

Does anyone use or have used an Induction Cooktop… like a NuWave Induction Cooktop, this one by Duxtop ( link to Amazon ) or something similar?… I was just curious how well they worked and if they are as good as the commercials makes them look. Thanks.

What kind of grass is this?

My friend has this grass in her front yard… Now that our lawn is turning slightly brown, I’m considering switching it to this type of lawn which I believe is less maintenance. The grass leaves are wide and it remains low growing, almost growing horizontally.

Does anyone know what kind of grass this is?

Orange Butterfly…

As I was working in our front yard garden, I saw this orange butterfly visiting our Shasta Daisies. I don’t recall ever seeing this type of butterfly.

Anyone know what kind it is?
[Update]
This was identified as a Gulf Fritillary (Agraulis vanillae).

Photos from the EBMQG May Meeting…

I was finally able to upload photos from May’s East Bay Modern Quilt Guild meeting onto my Flickr site.

Here’s the photoset: “EBMQG – May 2012 Meeting“… or you can click below to view a slideshow.

Stacey who normal runs the monthly meetings is in Virginia for a couple months, so Lauren ran the May meeting. Here are notes from the meeting: eastbaymodernquiltguild.wordpress.com/2012/06/02/may-meeting-sans-stacey/

Compost and Worms!!!…

We have two BioStack Compost Bins: bin #1 has unfinished compost and bin #2 has compost which is pretty much done. One thing I like about the BioStack Compost Bins, is that each bin has three levels which you can remove and add to… so you can adjust the height of the bins. Since we currently have more unfinished compost, I took one of the levels from bin #2 and added it to bin #1.

They are filled with tons and tons of worms!!!

Neighborhood Bird Chirping and Chirping and Chirping and Chirping…

There is a neighborhood bird that recently has been chirping its head off… even at 2am in the morning!!! He or she use to perch on the antenae on top of our house, but lately, I’ve noticed that it chirps on the tip of our neighbor’s 20+ foot tall Mediterranean Cypress.

Anyone know what this bird is?
[Update] A fellow Flickr user identified this bird as a Northern Mockingbird or Mimus polyglottos.

Below are photos and a video showing the bird’s chirping. (This was taken in Vallejo, CA (Northern San Francisco Bay Area) in early June 2012.)
