Coleus Cuttings…

It’s that time of the year that I dread, when I have to start taking Coleus cuttings. It’s not that I hate doing it, but it takes a while (I think I have over 80 varieties now) and it means that the Coleus in the pots will start to die as it gets colder :(.

This Week's Weather

The weather forecast says that cold weather is coming, so I have to get this done by tomorrow. I started soaking/expanding two trays of jumbo size Jiffy Peat Pellets.

Jumbo size Jiffy Peat Pellets

Each tray (which are really reused plastic drawers) holds 35 peat pellets nicely.

Coleus Cutting

I took photos of each Coleus before taking cuttings. I took extra cuttings of some of my prized ones that I either grew from seed or is hard to find. I totalled 35 cuttings today and have two more batches that I will do tomorrow.

Photos from the EBMQG October 2012 Meeting…

Here are some photos from the East Bay Modern Quilt Guild – October 2012 meeting that I attended this week.

You can also view the individual photos on my Flickr set “EBMQG – October 2012 Meeting“.

Double Thanks Carol!!!…

Last night, Carol Van Zandt gave members of the East Bay Modern Quilt Guild some fabrics from her new line called “Licorice Fizz” from Andover Fabrics.
THANK YOU CAROL!!!

Licorice Fizz

I especially like the black and light grey fabrics that look like faces. They reminded me of the soot characters from Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away.

Bou Nezumi

I looked online to see what they were called… and I discovered that a toy rat–which has been driving me crazy trying to figure out what anime he was from–is Bou Nezumi from Spirited Away!!!

THANKS AGAIN CAROL!!!… The soot characters, by the way, are called Susuwatari.

Coded Paragraph at PIQF 2012

My quilt “Coded Paragraph” will be shown at the New Quilts of Northern California exhibit at the Pacific International Quilt Festival in the Santa Clara Convention Center (Santa Clara, California) from October 11-14, 2012. More information on their website.

Showing my (almost completed) quilt top at the East Bay Modern Quilt Guild meeting...

Here are a few photos of my quilt’s progress on Flickr.

I’ve never been to PIQF and this is the first time I had a quilt accepted to be shown at an “International” quilt show… so I don’t know exactly what to expect. I heard that is a large show and you can easily spend most of the day there.

Please come if you have the chance. I’ll try to make it there Saturday, and maybe return Sunday if I don’t get to see everything.

Hibiscus Cutting

I got this Hibiscus cutting from my nephew’s girlfriend (thanks Kriselda).

I soaked it for a bit because it looked so dry and I didn’t think it would grow… but I see what I think are little growth along the stem.

Hibiscus Cutting

There are no instructions on the package and I don’t know what direction to plant it. One end has wax and the other is just bare. I think the wax side it up, but I’m not sure.

Anyone know what I should do?

Quilt-related DVDs

I just rented two quilt-related DVDs from Netflix and found some others that may be interesting:

America Quilts (2008)
Amish & Mennonite Quilts Across America (2008)
A Century of Quilts: America in Cloth (2006)
The Art of Quilting (2001)
Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt (1989)

Induction Cooktop Query…

Does anyone use or have used an Induction Cooktop… like a NuWave Induction Cooktop, this one by Duxtop ( link to Amazon ) or something similar?… I was just curious how well they worked and if they are as good as the commercials makes them look. Thanks.
